CIDON participe dans le nouveau Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid

Madrid, April 20, 2021. CIDON Interior Design & Contract, experts in interior architecture and decoration, as well as in FF&E and OS&E equipment management for the hotel sector, has been selected to carry out the Procurement Agent, Planning, and Logistic Coordination project for the new Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid hotel, which has just reopened its doors in the Spanish capital.

Located next to the Prado Museum, this legendary 5-Star Luxury hotel has undergone the most significant renovation in its 110-year history. Spanish architect Rafael de la Hoz, the soul of the project, has been responsible for giving it a new design direction, without losing its classic character, a differentiating element of this iconic 20th-century hotel.

With an investment of 12 million euros, the added values provided by CIDON are the experience in FF&E consultancy tasks and customization of the procurement management of each supplier. Secondly, the flexibility that favors the coordination of work with other consultants involved in the project. Thirdly, the capacity to adapt to such extraordinary circumstances, not only because it is such an iconic project but also because of the complicated execution time, amidst a pandemic.

One of the main requirements demanded by the history of the building was to maintain the balance between elegance and exclusivity, or classicism and modernity. The architectural essence, dressed with noble pieces at its height and design, accompanied, as before, by contemporary works of art, honoring its privileged position in the city: The Art Triangle.

The French designers from the Gilles&Boissier studio, for their part, have maintained the hotel’s sophistication, combining both styles: classic and contemporary, both in the 153 rooms and in the 53 suites, and in each and every one of its spaces. The suites are unique, as they feature unique design pieces. The vast majority of the production has been national, including restored elements and also the inclusion of the designers’ private collection. Nearly 20 different references of noble woods, natural marbles, leathers of natural origin from a Cordovan artisan, and about 300 different fabrics from France, England, or even custom-made according to design requirements have been used.

As Juan Pemán, founding partner of CIDON, explains: « Probably, the most relevant spatial action of the intervention in the new Mandarin Oriental Ritz Madrid has been the recovery of the brightness of the area under the restored large glass dome, which originally housed the winter garden and had been covered for almost 100 years. In general, the result obtained after the completion of the project is highly satisfactory, both internally in the work team, formed by Águeda Cardeñoso, Carlos Camacho, Marta Echevarría, and Ezequiel Ferreras, where everything has worked perfectly despite the difficulties and setbacks, as externally with the other teams involved and, above all, with the client. »

In addition to the complexity in adapting the design project, the exhaustive logistical coordination work stands out: from the initial custom manufacturing processes, their subsequent transportation and unloading at the hotel, to the final assembly phase in the corresponding location. The painstaking coordination of all these tasks was carried out in parallel with the construction works, coexisting for days and nights in the hotel with up to 20 different work teams.

From urban hotels, through beach resorts, to historic hotels like this one, CIDON adapts its portfolio of services to each project, seeking excellence in execution and the complete satisfaction of the clients who have placed their trust in them for almost 30 years.
